The Sahmet cattery was founded in 2000. We decided to give it a name connected with Egypt.
In the ancient Egypt the cult of the cat played a significant role. The cat was considered as a sacred animal.
Sakhmet was a healer goddess in the Egyptian mythology, the patroness of doctors, who were considered her priests. Sakhmet had a magic force to set and cure diseases. At the same time Sakhmet guarded the pharaon, being near him at the battle time and threw down the enemies to his feet, and also were the keeper of peace and defender of people.
Sakhmet was portrayed as a woman with the head of a lioness and identified with Bast goddess in whose cathedral dwelled the holy cats.
Siamese, Orientals and similar breeds are considered to be the descendants of those very cats that were honoured and idolized by ancient Egyptians.
